Transforming BCN's website
from slow to seamless

The challenge

BCN’s website was slow and difficult to navigate. It was also outdated and full of unhelpful plugins. As BCN creates modern and innovative tech solutions, the site needed to reflect its brand’s identity and offering. So, we transformed it into a high-performing and modern interface that engaged new customers and provided a user-friendly experience.

The approach

The main issue with BCN’s website stemmed from its utilisation of an outdated version of WordPress, leading to poor performance. We used our bespoke WordPress build alongside our custom-built docker containers to overcome this.

We also made optimisations to the site, including lazy loading and compression of content. BCN’s site is now reactively updatable with a bloat-free page builder. The other great thing about our CMS is it doesn’t negatively impact performance like many other WordPress plugins. We also put in place a simple workflow to update:

• WordPress plugins
• WordPress core
• General site updates

Alongside these updates were deployment pipelines, docker containers build, and code standard and security reviews. Before the launch, we also undertook extensive preparation with every detail tested. The outcome? The site launch was seamless, with no bugs or unexpected issues.

The results

• Desktop PageSpeed performance score increased from 86 to 95
• Mobile PageSpeed performance score increased from 33 to 99
