The challenge
Places for People is an 11,000-strong organisation with colleagues working across offices, leisure centres, customer homes and communities throughout the UK. With such a geographically diverse workforce, the challenge was clear: how do you make internal communications feel open, accessible and engaging for everyone, not just those closest to head office?
Places for People needed a way to bring colleagues closer to the leadership team, create more honest two-way communication, and make better use of their internal systems as a place for conversation, connection and shared culture.
The approach
We created Drop the Mic, a live internal content format designed to make leadership feel more visible, human and accessible. Built around a roadshow model, the campaign travelled to different Places for People locations, combining in-room energy with live-streamed content and on-demand edits for colleagues watching wherever they were.
We consulted with curiosity to understand the needs of a broad internal audience, crafted a flexible live production format that could work across different venues and audience sizes, and connected every dot, from filming and streaming to next-day edits, internal system engagement and long-form content.
The result was a format that felt less like a corporate broadcast and more like a conversation. Colleagues could watch live, catch up later, ask questions and see senior leaders in a more open, honest and approachable way.
The results
Drop the Mic became a genuine cross-platform internal campaign, creating high-quality live, recorded and in-person content that helped colleagues feel closer to the business and its leadership team. Internal feedback showed that the format made the CEO and exec team feel more visible, honest and approachable, with colleagues saying it helped them feel part of “one community” and more connected to the direction of the organisation.
The campaign also earned industry recognition, winning Internal Campaign of the Year at the European Content Awards. Judges praised the scale and quality of the live production, the way the campaign flexed across different locations, and the strength of an IRL-led content idea that generated meaningful engagement across multiple platforms.
