What do toddlers, timelapse photography, and The Real Housewives have in common?
Not much, at first glance, but at TrunkBBI we’ve found a way to turn all three topics and more into opportunities to learn, grow and inspire.
Curiosity is a fundamental part of our industry. Curiosity about our clients, their products, their audience, and their challenges goes without saying, but curiosity about the wider world, culture, and people is invaluable. It allows us to think outside our personal bubbles and boosts creativity by compelling us to explore and learn, seeking new information and experiences.
So, when creating six core values for our agency, it’s no surprise that ‘Constantly Curious’ made the final cut, along with ‘Love What You Do’, ‘Everyone Matters’, ‘Truth Kindly Told’, ‘Own It’, and ‘Stand Together, Succeed Together’.
When we think of curiosity, it’s natural to turn to external sources: TV, film, books, podcasts, nature—the list goes on and on. But one thing we had been overlooking was ourselves. TrunkBBI is made up of around 70 staff, all with different backgrounds, interests, hobbies, and perspectives. We were our own untapped wellspring of wisdom. But how do we distil these differences into something digestible?
Enter Curiosity Club.
Now entering its seventh instalment, this monthly meeting serves as a forum where staff can gather over lunchtime, dig into their meal deals, and watch a few of their colleagues deliver presentations designed to blow their minds (or at least broaden their horizons).
Designed to entertain and hone our presentation skills, the format is simple: three speakers, each presenting the topic of their choice across seven slides in seven minutes with as few words on screen as possible. And what a range of topics we’ve had! From gaining insight into the intricacies of casino design to learning how to escape a zombie apocalypse in a helicopter and the painstaking processes behind making a stop-motion movie, there’s no telling what knowledge will be dropped on us during each session.
There’s something for everyone, and what you take away from Curiosity Club is up to you. A welcome break in the middle of the day? Great. A good laugh and learn something new? Fabulous. Find out that GARETH IS TRAINED TO FLY A HELICOPTER??! Bonkers.
Feeling inspired? Why not start your own version and add a sprinkle of inspiration to your way of working? All you need is a presentation space and a few willing (or easily bribed) volunteers.
Until next time: Stay curious.
